For the past two decades, director + director of photography John Roderick has crafted character driven stories and eye opening imagery of some of today’s most celebrated change makers, sports athletes, celebrities, musicians and popular brands alike.

John’s kinetic and improvised approach to both storytelling, light and camera movement are signature to his eclectic upbringing between Maine, San Francisco and Europe. Today his work bridges advertising,  documentary series, and a number of unscripted television series.

Formative work began in the late 1990’s documenting 15x years of the highest echelon of adventure and action sports for then emerging brands such as Oakley, Red Bull, and Outside Television. During this window John  helped shape these brands media departments and content libraries by producing a multitude of advertising, television series, documentaries, and feature length films in the category.

Another formative intersection was made by musician Michael Franti of Michael Franti & Spearhead, which the two collaborated closely on a large number of music videos, promos and a feature length documentary titled “Stay Human” that highlights ordinary people, doing extraordinary things to change the world.

John studied at the Maine Media Workshops under the mentorships of cinematographer Russel Carpenter (Titanic, Avatar, Charlie’s Angels) and lighting gaffer Morris Flam (The Tourist, Black Swan, Lawrence of Arabia).

Today John serves as the eyes to number of directors through his cinematography as well as leads Denver based production company Neu Productions, and grip & lighting service Mountain Goat Grip & Lighting.
